Sigur Rós

Sigur Rós’s breakout album, Ágætis Byrjun, was judged the “last great record of the 20th century” by Q magazine, and soon their music achieved a level of ubiquity in film and TV sync quite out of keeping for a band performing 10 minutes songs in a made-up language.

The band have now released seven studio albums, two films, solo albums, side projects, orchestral and choral works, tech start-up collaborations, music for dance companies and leading visual artists, as well as several film scores, all of which has been overseen and directed by the team at Big Dipper.

Sigur Rós - Back In The Studio

Sigur Rós are currently in the process of writing and recording their first new studio album since 2013's Kveikur, with founding members Jónsi and Georg Holm joined by former member Kjartan Sveinsson, who is rejoining the band almost a decade after stepping away to focus on other projects.

Odin's Raven Magic

The album 'Odin’s Raven Magic' is an orchestral collaboration between Sigur Rós, Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson, Steindór Andersen and Maria Huld Markan Sigfúsdóttir which premiered 18 years ago at the Barbican Centre in London and is now finally almost two decades later being released. The performance honours the poem, dramatic and beautiful, classical with a modern strike. A stone marimba was built especially for the performance by Páll Guðmundsson.

Odin’s Raven Magic - the poem - had been relegated from mainstream ancient literature ever since 1867, when Norwegian scholar Sophus Bugge claimed it was a 17th century fabrication. This theory has since been toppled with literary and linguistic arguments and new research has concluded that Odin’s Raven Magic was indeed authentic and has finally being reintroduced to the Edda.
